METCALF WATERCOLOR PAINTING. Amazing early 20th century montage illustration by Willard Metcalf done in watercolor shades of gray with major areas of white gouache paint on paper. Scenes of Zuni Indian village life, possibly from his series of illustrations done of the Zuni Indians for "Harper's" magazine. Signed to the right of the circular image "Metcalf" with a stylized Indian bird. In excellent condition with no foxing however the original paper surface has been mounted to a linen backing with some missing portions at the outer edges. Any such imperfections are under the original matting. Plus there are pencil notations, including "Zun"  and some numbers visible around those outer edges. Original matting and frame. Matted image measures 21.75" x 17.75". Undated.

EARLY FAMILY PORTRAIT. A great example of early 19th century life with a full figures and background portrait of a mother and her children.  Mother in a flowing white gown with a daughter at her knee and her boy reading a book behind her. All set in a serene country setting. Oil on canvas with a very old repair at the top with slight showing on the front surface. Frame has been gold painted with some plaster loss. Framed, it measures 26" x 30.5" with a canvas size of  20" x  24".

PORTRAIT ON  IVORY. Great example of early 19th century portrait painting on ivory. A bust length oval image of a young girl in an off-the-shoulder red dress highlighted by a center bow. Black curls of hair surround her face of distinctive features with her eyes, nose and mouth. Background is a pale blue. All framed in a guilt gold and black laquered frame that measures 3" in width and 3.5" in height. Ivory shows a very old crack but does not take away from the overall image as it has not separated. Circa 1820-30.
